Kelly's St. John's Wort pages for depression
Welcome! Since 1997, tens of millions of people have visited this site. It's about overcoming depression. Many people have also contributed their experiences in the forum, adding great value to the information herein. The site is primarily about using St. John's Wort (Latin name hypericum perforatum) as a highly effective, natural treatment for depression. But other over-the-counter options are discussed as well. There's more collective experience here on the subject than anywhere else on the Internet. There's no ads and I'm not selling you anything, either.
Most other websites try to sell you something... so how can you trust their advice as being impartial?
My name is Kelly. I started this site to share experiences about St. John's Wort. You can find out more about me in the about Kelly section. I started this website in 1997 to help people, because I found something that worked for me. Back then there was very little information about St. John's Wort. Out of desperation, I just started taking it without knowing any precautions. I was my own guinea pig, which was not a good idea. But I was very lucky to have found a real (and safe) treatment for depression. So I started these pages to tell the world! Fast-forward to today. A number of major scientific studies now prove that St. John's Wort (SJW) is just as effective as many prescription anti-depressants, but it can be bought over-the-counter without a prescription. And it's a natural herb.
I have collected literally thousands of other people's experiences on this website since 1997. Personally, I wouldn't claim to fully understand depression, but I'm a lot wiser about it now. St. John's Wort changed my life at a time when I needed it most, and maybe with a little luck it can work for you too.
DISCLAIMER: You should know I am not a doctor. I won't give you medical advice and if you're taking other medications today you should probably talk to your doctor. However, I do know a little something about St. John's Wort now and have taken it longer than most people. It doesn't require a doctor's approval (except in Germany), but that doesn't mean it's not a powerful antidepressant. And now there is now a great deal of scientific proof about this.
Do some research
I believe you should do as much research as possible. Depression is a debilitating disease. Read as much as you can and learn from others. Then share your experiences, and help someone just as you found help. We all experience depression differently, but in this online community we all have something in common. Our collective experiences and shared support can make a world of a difference.
The only thing I ask is that you please read through the information here before posting questions in the forum. Don't click around too much, sit back and just start reading. So let's get started.
