Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - the SJW forum 1. Do I need to register to post messages? Yes. But you don't even have to give me your email address, unless you want to. If you do include your email, you have the option to get notification of any replies to your posted messages, which is really cool. Plus, I will never *ever* send you SPAM - perhaps a short email on any new updates to the site every couple of months (haven't decided yet), but you can turn this off very easily. Please don't put in a fake email address if you list anything in that field. 2. How do I edit my profile/password? Simply click on the register button above the forums. Scroll down and you'll see a button marked 'edit'. Check that and just enter your user name and password. You can also select a 'face' for your own profile. All available faces can be viewed here. 3. How do I get a "face" in my profile? I am working on putting that into the registration process, but for now you need to edit your profile. The easiest way is to to to register, enter your username/password (only) and then scroll down to the "EDIT" button. From there you can select a face for your profile. 4. How can I use "emoticons" in my messages? These are the really neat icons that you see in the message. To use emoticons you need to use the format :name: . All emoticons available can be viewed here . For example, in order to include in your message, you must use write  5. What "tags" can i use in my posts ? Tags are sorta like HTML code, where you can put up links to other web sites. While you can't use HTML directly, you can use the BoardMaster tags which come in the form of [tag] text here [/tag] . Detailed information on all tags can be found here. 6. Cool forum, how can I create my own? Well, as of 2005 this software is more than 5 years old, and isn't being updated anymore. I hope to one day upgrade the website to something more modern, and when I do I'll go with the vBulletin commercial software. The problem is with migrating the many thousands of existing messages to the new format... it's a lot harder than it sounds. |
