| "Melanoma Patients Should Avoid L-tyrosine" , Sun 2 Oct 12:01
Hi, I notice that many people use l-tyrosine and 5htp/tryptophan together because they work synergistically in promoting both dopamine/norepinephrine and serotonin. I don't want to incite a panic, but people with a melanoma risk (like myself -- I'm only 33, but I've had one mole removed because it was precancerous) or melanoma should stay away from l-tyrosine. It's listed as a precaution in the PDR monograph: http://www.pdrhealth.com/drug_info/nmdrugprofiles/nutsupdrugs/lty_0256.shtml
The Life Extension website says: Cancer patients should avoid taking L-phenylalanine and L-tyrosine. Certain cancers, such as melanoma, depend on these amino acids to fuel their growth.
